Many people have looked at us or one of our team members, and asked what we are doing. Some are curious; some are concerned as to what we are doing with the dogs, and some are downright rude and tell us to “stop creating a nuisance and get out of my street”.

So, here is a brief explanation as to what we are doing.

In an effort to control the street dog population, BBMP runs a free animal birth control (ABC) programme. The dogs are picked up, neutered, vaccinated against rabies, and returned to the same spot, in keeping with the Supreme Court order of 2001.

However, some of these dogs are very hard to catch; they run away when they see the van. So, we volunteers are coming here for 2-3 weeks to get friendly with them, so that they can be caught easily. Some also need post-operative care, so you may see us for another 2-3 weeks after this. Please bear with us.

If you have any doubts, please feel free to call the BBMP control room at 080-22221188, or the Sanjay Nagar police station at 080-22942533.
